Prop 8 support Protest in Schools today, October 21

Supporters of Proposition 8 now have a proposition of their own: They're behind an online effort to keep kids home from school Tuesday, October 21. The organizers say for every student who misses school for personal reasons costs the school money, and are banking that high numbers will send a big message.

The e-mail says, "Many California public school students are going to be sick and absent from school on Tuesday, October 21st… Many are puzzled why the professional group hired to educate them is spending so much money to push their own social agenda."

The CTA did not comment on how much they've donated to other California propositions
for this election cycle.

My three children are staying home from school today.

Good for you! I find that I pretty much never agree with the CTA. It is so frustrating that they are choosing to take sides on this.

That looks like one awesome rally and I'm so excited to attend next Tuesday. Maybe I can get some more signs since someone stole mine.

YOU SURE CAN! We are excited that our signs are getting stolen because it pushes prop 8 forward in 3 ways
1. It shows the real attitude toward "tolerance and free speech" that the opposition claims to have.
2. It gets us attention in the media. Many newspapers have been notified.
3. We just received more signs than ever and are fueled by the challenge.

I applaud students who protested by staying home from school on October 21st.

As an educator, I find it reprehensible that the CTA is giving so much money to try and defeat Prop. 8. Issues such as same-sex unions v. marriage have no place in the public schools. Our children are sent to school to receive and education and not to be indoctrinated with varying social agendas. If more time was dedicated to the teaching of academic subjects rather than social ideas in the schools, teachers could make more strides with their students and students would be better able to compete in a competitive market place upon graduation.

In San Francisco, 1st graders in a public school were recently taken on a field trip to witness their teacher's lesbian wedding as a lesson in diversity. How is a 1st grade field trip to a lesbian wedding appropriate use of school hours? When I was in 4th grade, our teacher married, and we were invited to the wedding, but it was on a week-end when we could attend with our parents...not during school time. That is TOTALLY inappropriate to do during school, especially since I find it hard to believe that it would be considered "educational" for children to take a field trip to a traditional marraige.
